OUT AND ABOUT - WALKING. CYCLING. BEACHES. CASTLES. HILLS. BOATS. ISLANDS BIRD WATCHING. KITE SURFING. PADDLE BOARDING. COASTEERING OR JUST SITTING AND READING A BOOK - THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO IN NORTH NORTHUMBERLAND - THE HIDDEN KINGDOM

North Northumberland is a truly special place. The tiny hamlet of Chillingham hidden away from the busier coastal stretch is magical. Like stepping back in time with our pretty church, Chillingham Castle and of course The Chillingham Wild Cattle!

There is a huge amount to see and do right on our doorstep so it is really worth spending a few days here to make the most of it relax and enjoy the house and surrounding area.

Chillingham Manor. Northumberland - A great location for a cycling holiday.

Within 5 minutes walk of Chillingham Manor

The 13th Century Chillingham Castle steeped in history and spooky goings on.  The pretty church of St Peter’s which dates back to the 12th Century and of course the world famous Wild Cattle of Chillingham. These remarkable wild beasts are completely untamed. They have never been touched by human hand; no vet has ever treated one. There are only about 100 in the world. They live in the cattle park of the castle.

There is a pub and a perfect village shop in Chatton. Only a mile away. There is also a fantastic second hand/nearly new clothes shop - Coco and Alice above Chatton Village Store.

Within 20 minutes drive.

Alnwick Castle and Garden. If Harry Potter is your thing Alnwick Castle was Hogwarts in the film.  The Alnwick Garden is very beautiful and definitely worth visiting at any time of the year. The blossom is a sight to behold and blloms towards the end of begining of April for just 2 weeks.

Now open Lilidorei - The magical land next to The Gardens.  The pretty coastal village of Bamburgh and its iconic Castle which sits in one of the most magnificent settings (We think) of any castle in the UK, overlooking miles and miles of sandy beach. Take a trip on a high speed rib or at a more leisurely pace on one of the fabulous Serenity Farne Island boat tours or on Billy Sheil’s “Glad Tidings” boats to visit the Farne Islands Nature reserve.  The Holy Island of Lindisfarne where the Vikings landed in 793 is worth a trip even if just to drive across the causeway at low tide (Check the tide tables!).

One of our favourites Ross Back Sands. 20 mins from Chillingham. Bamburgh to the right and Holy Island to the left. Beach perfection.
